Some really good things about Microsoft Project
2003 Server and 2007 Project Server
#5: Viewing your capacity requirements and resource
bottlenecks is easy with Microsoft Project 2003
Server and 2007 Project Server. With
Microsoft Project Server, viewing workloads across
project is an outstanding feature. Not in one of
the tiny Project Web Access windows or with the
Portfolio Analyzer views based on the
problematic and "not real-time" OLAP Cube data, but just within Microsoft Project.
Our customers don't jump up and down like we do
about this because they are also expecting to be
able to press a
button to resolve all of the problem they have
created by poor planning, but we think the
technology is amazing.
In the example below resources are loaded from the
resource and a clear view of workloads across
projects is available. From a raw project
management perspective this opens up a wonderful
opportunity when managing capacity across the
portfolio of projects.
